Turk's Head Planter [PLA001]

£60.00

Knots, sinnets and bends have been used for basic purposes of recording information and attaching objects together for thousands of years.

This planter has been made using a Turk’s Head knot, but rather than our smaller versions this one has been tied around a large ball. The ball provides an ideal sphere to tie around and also makes the perfect liner for a planter. After the knot is finished the planting aperture is cut into the ball and finished off with a whipping stitch. Small holes are made in the bottom of the ball holding the soil in and allowing the excess water to drain away.

We find a lot of balls on our coasts and estuaries, tennis balls make great large floating key rings but for sometime we’ve been trying to find a use for the footballs, good ones get donated to well-behaved small people but we’ve now discovered that the ones near the end of their life make for great planter liners.

These knots are sculptural objects in their own right, tying together both new and found materials. Once again these knots are being used to record information as they are gracefully weathered by nature, reminding you of the changing seasons.

Knotting today into yesterday with a view of tomorrow.

Each planter bears the irregularities of the process and the human being that made it. We have made every attempt to provide all the measurements as accurately as possible.
